There are two types of block brakes: external and internal:

(1) External block brake: It is divided into short-stroke block brake and long-stroke block brake according to the length of travel of the operating device. The magnet of the short-stroke block brake is directly mounted on the brake arm. When working, the dynamic iron core rotates around the pin to loosen the brake; when the magnet is de-energised, the main spring is used to tighten the brake. This type of brake has a compact structure, fast tightening and loosening action, but with a large impact force. Long stroke block brake can produce large loosening force through the brake lever system, but the braking action is slow, suitable for large brakes.

②Internal Tension Block Brake: The brake block is located inside the brake wheel, and the pedal, lever and cam make the brake block open, pressing the inner surface of the brake wheel to tighten the brake, and releasing the pedal, the spring pulls back the brake block to loosen the brake. This type of brake can also be operated by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The internal tensioning block brake has a compact structure, is dustproof, and can be used in applications where installation space is restricted. It is widely used on various vehicles, and this standard applies to the external clutched double block brake.

According to the way of connection between the brake tile block (brake tile for short) and brake liner, and whether there is a countersunk hole at the end of the hinge hole of the brake tile, they are divided into the following four types:

Type B1: Rivet holes on the brake tile, connecting the brake liner by bonding, and no countersunk holes at the end of the brake tile reaming holes;

Type B1C: no rivet holes on the brake tile, the brake liner is coupled by adhesive means, and there is a countersunk hole at the end of the brake tile reaming hole;

B2 type: there are rivet holes on the brake tile, the brake liner is connected by riveting, and there is no countersunk hole at the end of the brake tile reamed shaft;

B2C type: there are rivet holes on the brake tile, the brake liner is connected by riveting, and there is a countersunk hole at the end of the brake tile hinge shaft.
